About Derrick R. Staton
Derrick joined Schiller Barnes Maloney, PLLC, in August 2020. His practice areas include wrongful death and catastrophic injury, construction defects and accidents, trucking and automobile negligence, insurance bad faith, products liability, and premises liability.
An Elizabethtown, Kentucky native, Derrick attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude. In 2009, Derrick graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law. During law school, Derrick served on the Kentucky Law Journal and interned for United States Representative, Ron Lewis, and United States Senator, Jim Bunning, in Washington, D.C.
Before joining Schiller Barnes Maloney, Derrick worked at a Lexington-based litigation firm where he practiced throughout Kentucky. Derrick has served in various educational roles, including as a faculty member at Sacred Heart Academy and an adjunct faculty member at Bellarmine University, teaching Business Law and Sports Law. Derrick has also served as a faculty member for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program. Derrick has earned the Loretta Peter Mudd Excellence in Teaching Award and the University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award. Currently, Derrick is an elected member of the KAAC Board of Directors representing all Jefferson County public and private schools.
In his free time, Derrick enjoys politics, coaching youth sports, and spending time with his wife and children.
